Happy 5 years to me and the world..

Source for picture

i still hear their voices

It was almost 4:30, I needed to shower and get out of my pj's. I turn the water on full blast, a little too warm for most people, and jump in. Having a stand-up shower can be sort of a bad thing in times like these...

Shampoo in the eyes, always, without fail, I don't know how I do it. I shut them and continue to wash, going through the motion as one normally would do. After about 3 min. I open them to find the light flooding my still stinging eyes. Instantly I clamp them shut, trying in vain to stop the pain from getting worse. This time, while my eyes are closed, the images come back.

The flashback filled the room around me, though I couldn't see it with my eyes closed. I really believed I was living in a moment already past. The cold tile floor, that never seems to be clean enough to want to stand on it. The shower not pumping water hard enough, to make you feel like it's really cleaning you. I can hear voices outside the thick door, I smell the mass produced soap, the kind that everyone has to use here. A new bar every shower, so much waste in here. I know the too small, not soft enough towels are waiting for me. One to step on, when exiting the shower, and one to wrap my shrinking frame in.

I linger in the shower longer then I should. Other patients are waiting to use this stall. Most rather use the large shower, but it's too big and open for the likes of me. Or they like the bathtub room. I'm not allowed in there... The staff have the stupid idea, that I'll try to drown myself. I wouldn't do that, not here... So I opt for the small shower room. Just big enough for the standing shower, a plastic chair to hold your clothes, and a trash can, for the shampoo, conditioner, and soap, after each shower. This hospital smells... different. I'll never forget the smell. I still haven't.

The hallway will be cold, even when I've completely dressed. You can never be fully warm, without shoes. It's the middle of Aug. shouldn't it be warm? Going into the hallway means no more privacy. There will probably be 5 or so people pacing up and down it. Even the old man, being pushed in his wheel chair.. up and down, back and forth, by polite nurses, who try in vain to have conversations with him. All he will do is drool, and yell horrible, dirty things, to her, and to the world in general. Or scream for his wife. We never found out if his wife was alive or dead... But he wanted to see her really bad. Leaving this stall means 3 juice boxes, another container of yogurt, and more snacks, waiting for me in the fridge. Neatly labeled with "Jack H." which tells all the other patients to back off. They are trying to fatten me up.

When you arnt allowed to shave, you can never feel like you're getting clean, no matter how hard you scrub. Or how many long showers you take, in between meals and group therapy meetings. You long for the first shower you get, once freed from these walls. But know that when you get into that shower, you'll regret leaving the hospital so fast. Every time... It never changes.

I'm shaking, the hot water seems to run forever. So many people, showering so many times, and yet the water is still filling the room with steam. But your bones never seem to warm up, you shiver through the entire shower, knowing soon that the water will have to be turned off... And the cold will come and envelope your body... A blanket of frost that curls up around you, keeping you company. I stand letting the hot water rush over me, wishing I could stay here forever.

A door slams, I hear wheels rolling down the hall. Lunch trays... Voices get loud, heavy footsteps move down toward the day room. I hear the normal "Where's Jack? She has to eat her lunch." call. I sigh, and push the knob that turns off the shower. Take a few deep breaths, before opening my eyes.

And I'm back in my shower, here at home, in Pleasanton. Water is off, I'm shaking as the cool air moves all around me. It's time to dry off and get dressed. I'm in this world now.

~~~Written by me almost 5 years ago. Right after that last Aug. of hospitals. After 3 years in a row, it seemed like a pattern my body would always go into. Now, 5 years later, with no pills, no shrinks, and many less episodes, I wish I could say that I don't care about these days in Aug. But it's like this internal clock that's always waiting for Aug. to come around.. Where it's harder and harder to control. It's gotten easier. You learn after so many years how to deal. But there are still the things around you that you cannot control as much as you try. I got through most of the days this year fine! I did wake up on day one and couldn't focus my eyes, felt that stirring inside me the heat. It was like an old memory that's just balancing on the tip of your brain.. and you can't tell if it's good or bad but you sorta want to just remember it to know. So much has happened by the end of these days this year, and by the old standards, I should of reacted much worse. But after 5 years strong, I'm happy to have made it.
Here's to 6 years!
School of Jesus Fish, reopening!
Our original flyer, designed by the fabulous Rob Dario.
Dr. Simon being a jerk to Anne (hey that's me!) He always wanted to just shut me up.
Anne's "Last Supper" if you will, if pills and water can be a supper.
Irma (Gabby), Debra/Shea (Jen), Dr. Ben (Matt), and Anne (me) goofing off backstage.
So this past fall I was in the amazing play School of Jesus Fish. This was the best show I've ever been a part of. I played Anne, sorta the lead role (score one for me!) and the show was awesome. Not only did every cast member click so well together, but the show was great. The writer even came out to see us perform, and we got quite the media buzz in the Bay Area.
Quick synopsis of the show:
Dr. Benjamin Hamilton's first patient as a therapist at St. Lucy's psychiatric ward is Anne Fencik, a woman who claims she is a prophet -- God's daughter on earth -- perhaps the "second coming." As Dr. Hamilton seeks to cure her, Ann's presence begins to have startling effects on the other psychiatric patients. Is their sudden recovery a result of a psychiatric breakthrough, or of Anne's healing?
Characters:
  • Dr. Benjamin Hamilton: Mid-20s. New, uncertain.
  • Franny: bi-polar, rapid and impatient
  • Dr. Simon Piletti: Upside of forty. A gentle man when things are going his way, but no question he is in charge.
  • Anne Fencik: delusional (?) but quite lucid.
  • Irma: obsessive-compulsive with schizophrenic tendencies
  • Karen Fishback: ex-musician, suffers from periodic visual hallucinations
  • Debra: diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder
  • Sam: 20 years old and tormented by auditory hallucinations
  • Shea Fishback: sister of Karen. Professional musician
The show was extremely difficult for us doing it, hitting some strong subjects. Religion and mental disorders. And allowed the audience to make it's own decisions on if I was crazy, or really some sort of profit from god. Many of us in the show have had our lives touched by someone (if not ourselves) with some sort of mental illness, and that can make a very rough and emotional time during rehearsals and performances. We were all so very supportive of each other, and I hope most if not all of the original cast can come back for this reopening of our wonderful show.
Spot Light: Up and Comers. Mixi
I Miss Those Days (Ghost) - Mixi
Do any of your watch Fuse? It's quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. And if you know me, then you know I have a weakness for bad reality TV. I've watched a little of everything, and stumbled upon a show called Redemption Song. At first I was pretty put off by it. 'Bad' girls trying to change their image to be taken seriously, and win a the chance for a record deal to make it big. Wait... bitchy girls, booze, cussing, music.. why wouldn't I like this show?!? Haha. Anyway, it was a wonderful show, and as the weeks went by I found I was getting more and more attached to the underdog. Mixi.
Her style was very much her own, which I love. Mixing hair colors, tattoos and dark eye make up, with her jazzy soulful voice, and playful attitude. I was hooked. Luckily for me, Mixi won the whole kit and caboodle, and I was there glued to my tv, squealing for her victory and buying her first real song "I Miss Those Days (Ghost)" from Itunes. And the video, super adorable! She's so cute!
Her myspace is here, and last night she had a Stickam chat going where she was answering questions and just being herself. I had some issues with my webcam and couldn't get it up and running but think I got it fixed now, so I plan to join in on Monday when she'll be back.
The thing is, she's just so real. She's a real girl that went through some hell, just like anyone else. Last night in the chat she smoked a cigarette and said "not to tell her family". Just like a normal person, and even tried to borrow a beer from a neighbor. She giggled, and smiled and was really enjoying that connection with her fans. I really recommend you give her a chance. She warms my heart.
Hope I Can Believe In.
Look ya'll, finally a real post from me! A bit of back story, I'm moving home. To Fairfield, into the house I grew up in, where my family is. This is not the normal 'I'm broke I need to move home wah wah wah.' type of move, but something that will help me in the long run. So yay! Last night I was out there visiting, and taking some of my family (and adopted family) to the Rats in the Alley improv show (I'll post about them sometime too, don't worry) and we had a great time. Drinking beer, laughing hard at the show, singing karaoke, and dancing. Once we got back to my moms we had a few more drinks and I had to get ready for bed. Driving to work from there takes almost an hour with OUT traffic, so I gotta get up early. Anyway, my mom and cousin and brother and his friends were talking election stuff (some didn't vote, some did, my mom voted and loves her McCain, which is fine by me) My sleepy self yells from the couch "I love my Obama!" and raise my fist into the air. The responce I got? My mother saying "I love that Jacqueline loves her Obama!" It's good to be passionate about something, and I really am inspired and passionate about him.
So I bring you today's post. (I know I know, shut up Jack and get to the art!) Todays post is inspired by he that inspires many.
Your sex is on fire.
I've had a rough couple of weeks. Lack of work, stress, the holidays and some big decisions weighing on me pretty hard. I promise the updates are coming. Right now all I want is a beer and a cigarette. To those of you that do read this, I miss you. And I will be back soon.
Making Christmas, Making Christmas...
Sorry for the lack of posts today. Some of you may know, but I am off of work for the next 2 weeks (Lame, so lame) but am still a busy bee! I'm making gifts this year for most people, and they are all turning out so cute! I slept in today, finished the last of my shopping and am working on finishing up these gifts in time for Wed.
Don't worry, I'll try to post something tomorrow, and after these gifts are given out, I'll be sure to post all the picture I've taken of the things I've made. I just have to share my creative goodies! :)
So, I hope you are all staying warm out there! Today wasn't that bad, but I did rock a shawl over my thermal when going to the store. My house is freezing, but I plan to take a long warm shower a little later tonight before crawling into bed with a good book and relaxing.
Hope you all have a great holiday season. Better posts soon!
Comments now open to everyone.
While trying to keep up with my posting, I've been slowly adding new things to this blog. Notice the header image, and now a footer one as well... I'm trying to keep up with the tagging system (something I fall in and out of on livejournal) and while checking my settings I realized that I had my comments setting to only registered users. That's no fun. So now, you Mr. or Miss Anonymous, can comment as well if you ever should feel like it. Leave a name, don't leave a name, hell you don't even have to comment. But now you have the option to do so. Does something strike your fancy? Tell me! Want to share your thoughts? Go for it!
A Day without a Gay
Gay marriage backers set "Day Without a Gay" event
By Peter Henderson
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Same-sex marriage advocates plan to "Call in gay" on Wednesday in a protest designed to show Americans how big a part of daily life -- and the economy -- gays and their supporters are.
The Internet-organized project, which follows California's passage of anti-same-sex-marriage Proposition 8, urges "Day Without a Gay" participants to skip work and volunteer in the community.
The idea is creating a controversy over how to garner support without protesters hurting their cause.
Californians struck down same-sex marriage last month, reversing a court decision that had affirmed the right. The November 4 vote stopped gay unions in California -- one of a handful of states, provinces and mostly European countries that allowed it.
After the vote, protest marches targeted U.S. temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons, who were top supporters of California Proposition 8, which limits marriage to a man and a woman. That led to a nationwide protest day on November 15.
"In order for this movement to continue it can't just be about marching and being pissed off. It's got to be creative in different ways to get into the hearts and minds of moderate voters," said daywithoutagay.org creator Sean Hetherington.
The Los Angeles comedian and his boyfriend, Aaron Hartzler, put the focus on volunteering, although one of the groups behind the November 15 rallies, jointheimpact.com, urges people to shut businesses and avoid spending anything.
The protest appears inspired by the 2004 film "A Day Without a Mexican" which imagines the effect on California of a day when there are no Latinos, leading to chaos on the state.
Now, I can't participate, which sucks but I had a hard time coming into work today. I knew I had to. I knew I couldn't punish my co-workers with me being gone, since I know how they feel about the whole topic. Hell, my car is STILL covered in all my "No on 8! Love is Love!" paint. Earlier this year when San Francisco allowed gay marriages, my good friend took a picture of this graffiti art and sent it to me. (this image I actually googled up, since I'm not on my home computer to get the original image, but it's just the same, only smaller). It seems based off the poster I had growing up, with two women laying in bed kissing. Note to self: find that poster, it's very pretty.
No matter where you live, or what your opinions are on people of a different sexual orientation... You should believe in love. Love is love, and everyone should have the right to be with someone they love. I know I want the right to marry whomever I choose, man or woman.
Though I had to come into work today, I'll only give about half the effort. ;) Love!
